September 30th, 2014 Young Adult Book Releases!

September was a crazy month for book releases! Even though fall brings another school year (*sigh, missing the sun already), we are spoiled with the arrival of new tv series, the big holiday movie release season and soooooo many new book releases to entertain us through the next few cold months. So here are the book releases for the final week of September 2014!

The Only Thing to Fear by Caroline Tung Richmond

In a stunning reimagining of history, debut author Caroline Tung Richmond weaves an incredible story of secrets and honor in a world where Hitler won World War II. It's been nearly 80 years since the Allies lost WWII in a crushing defeat against Hitler's genetically engineered super soldiers. America has been carved up by the victors, and 16-year-old Zara lives a life of oppression in the Eastern America Territories. Under the iron rule of the Nazis, the government strives to maintain a master race, controlling everything from jobs to genetics. Despite her mixed heritage and hopeless social standing, Zara dreams of the free America she's only read about in banned books. A revolution is growing, and a rogue rebel group is plotting a deadly coup. Zara might hold the key to taking down the Führer for good, but it also might be the very thing that destroys her. Because what she has to offer the rebels is something she's spent her entire life hiding, under threat of immediate execution by the Nazis. In this action-packed, heart-stopping novel of a terrifying reality that could have been, Zara must decide just how far she'll go for freedom.

A secret game. A legendary lie. A test of bravery. Those who fall risk everything, and Jackson is on the edge. Until he meets a girl who pushes him over. For Jackson, falling for Sarah Blake might be as dangerous as jumping in the Firelight Fall. As summer burns away, Jackson and Sarah ignite an unstoppable love game. For her, his heart is on fire. And soon, Sarah shows him life, saves him from loss, and opens his heart to an infinite and wild love found between the stars and sky.

Now Kennedy and the other Legion members–Alara, Priest, Lukas, and Jared–have to hunt him down. As they learn more about the history of the Legion and the Illuminati, Kennedy realizes that the greatest mystery of all does not belong to any secret order, but to her own family. With the clock ticking and the life of someone she loves hanging in the balance, Kennedy has to ask the question she fears most: what is it about her past that has left her Unmarked?

Love Is the Drug by Alaya Dawn Johnson

Emily Bird was raised not to ask questions. She has perfect hair, the perfect boyfriend, and a perfect Ivy-League future. But a chance meeting with Roosevelt David, a homeland security agent, at a party for Washington DC's elite leads to Bird waking up in a hospital, days later, with no memory of the end of the night. Something about the virus--something about her parents' top secret scientific work--something she shouldn't know. The only one Bird can trust is Coffee, a quiet, outsider genius who deals drugs to their classmates and is a firm believer in conspiracy theories. And he believes in Bird. Falling into Place by Amy Zhang

On the day Liz Emerson tries to die, they had reviewed Newton’s laws of motion in physics class. Then, after school, she put them into practice by running her Mercedes off the road. Why? Vividly told by an unexpected and surprising narrator, this heartbreaking and nonlinear novel pieces together the short and devastating life of Meridian High’s most popular junior girl. Mass, acceleration, momentum, force—Liz didn’t understand it in physics, and even as her Mercedes hurtles toward the tree, she doesn’t understand it now. How do we impact one another? How do our actions reverberate? What does it mean to be a friend? To love someone? To be a daughter? Or a mother? Is life truly more than cause and effect? Amy Zhang’s haunting and universal story will appeal to fans of Lauren Oliver, Gayle Forman, and Jay Asher.

The Vampires of Manhattan (Vampires of Manhattan #1) by Melissa de la Cruz

September 2, 2014 Young Adult Book Releases!

As Tuesdays approach, I get ever so excited for that is the day of the week that new book and dvd movies are releases for purchase. This Tuesday is no exception because there are a couple of books that I have been DYING to read. The first favorite of mine is Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas and I have been on high anxiety since I finished the previous book in the Throne of Glass series. I already listed this book in my last post so lets move on, shall we?

The Jewel (The Lone City #1) by Amy Ewing
“I did my best to keep you from crossing paths with this world. And I shall do my best to protect you now that you have.” Jessamin has been an outcast since she moved from her island home of Melei to the dreary country of Albion. Everything changes when she meets Finn, a gorgeous, enigmatic young lord who introduces her to the secret world of Albion’s nobility, a world that has everything Jessamin doesn’t—power, money, status…and magic. But Finn has secrets of his own, dangerous secrets that the vicious Lord Downpike will do anything to possess. Unless Jessamin, armed only with her wits and her determination, can stop him. Kiersten White captured readers’ hearts with her New York Times bestselling Paranormalcy trilogy and its effortless mix of magic and real-world teenage humor. She returns to that winning combination of wit, charm, and enchantment in Illusions of Fate, a sparkling and romantic new novel perfect for fans of Cassandra Clare, The Madman’s Daughter, and Libba Bray.

Trial by Fire (The Worldwalker Trilogy #1) by Josephine Angelini

This world is trying to kill Lily Proctor. Her life-threatening allergies keep her from enjoying experiences that others in her hometown of Salem take for granted, which is why she is determined to enjoy her first high school party with her best friend and longtime crush, Tristan. But after a humiliating incident in front of half her graduating class, Lily wishes she could just disappear. Suddenly, Lily is in a different Salem—one overrun with horrifying creatures and ruled by powerful women called Crucibles. Strongest and cruelest of them all is Lillian . . . Lily's other self in this alternate universe. What makes Lily weak at home is what makes her extraordinary in New Salem. In this confusing world, Lily is torn between responsibilities she can't hope to shoulder alone and a love she never expected.

Anatomy of a Misfit by Andrea Portes

This emotional, hilarious, devastating, and ultimately triumphant YA debut, based on actual events, recounts one girl’s rejection of her high school’s hierarchy—and her discovery of her true self in the face of tragedy. Fall’s buzzed-about, in-house favorite. Outside, Anika Dragomir is all lip gloss and blond hair—the third most popular girl in school. Inside, she’s a freak: a mix of dark thoughts, diabolical plots, and, if local chatter is to be believed, vampire DNA (after all, her father is Romanian). But she keeps it under wraps to maintain her social position. One step out of line and Becky Vilhauer, first most popular girl in school, will make her life hell. So when former loner Logan McDonough shows up one September hotter, smarter, and more mysterious than ever, Anika knows she can’t get involved. It would be insane to throw away her social safety for a nerd. So what if that nerd is now a black-leather-jacket-wearing dreamboat, and his loner status is clearly the result of his troubled home life? Who cares if the right girl could help him with all that, maybe even save him from it? Who needs him when Jared Kline, the bad boy every girl dreams of, is asking her on dates? Who? Anatomy of a Misfit is Mean Girls meets The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and Anika’s hilariously deadpan delivery will appeal to readers for its honesty and depth. The so-sad-it’s-funny high school setting will pull readers in, but when the story’s dark foreboding gradually takes over, the devastating penultimate tragedy hits like a punch to the gut. Readers will ride the highs and lows alongside funny, flawed Anika — from laughter to tears, and everything in between.

Don't Touch by Rachel M. Wilson

A powerful story of a girl who is afraid to touch another person’s skin, until the boy auditioning for Hamlet opposite her Ophelia gives her a reason to overcome her fears. Step on a crack, break your mother’s back. Touch another person’s skin, and Dad’s gone for good. Caddie can’t stop thinking that if she keeps from touching another person’s skin, her parents might get back together... which is why she wears full-length gloves to school and covers every inch of her skin. It seems harmless at first, but Caddie’s obsession soon threatens her ambitions as an actress. She desperately wants to play Ophelia in her school’s production of Hamlet. But that would mean touching Peter, who’s auditioning for the title role—and kissing him. Part of Caddie would love nothing more than to kiss Peter—but the other part isn't sure she's brave enough to let herself fall. Perfect for fans of Laurie Halse Anderson, this debut novel from Rachel M. Wilson is a moving story of a talented girl who's fighting an increasingly severe anxiety disorder, and the friends and family who stand by her.

Perry has been half in love with Garrett for years, but this is not exactly the best time to start a relationship—especially when their investigation leads them directly into the clutches of the madman she thought she’d escaped...

Ghost Layer (Ghost Seer #2) by Robin D. Owens

2014 Books That Are Coming Out!

Hello ALL!
So I'm back! I have been reading sooooo many books this past year and many of them are part of a series, making it UNBEARABLE to have to wait for the next installment. However, although Fall is upon the good old USofA, there is a plethora of amazing books to watch out for. My genre interests have been hopping around all over the place but that justs makes my book lists that much more interesting. There are almost too many to name but here are a few to look out for that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND:
Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) by Sarah J. Maas
Release date: September 2nd, 2014

Book Description:
Lost and broken, Celaena Sardothien’s only thought is to avenge the savage death of her dearest friend: as the King of Adarlan’s Assassin, she is bound to serve this tyrant, but he will pay for what he did. Any hope Celaena has of destroying the king lies in answers to be found in Wendlyn. Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King’s Guard, has sent Celaena there to protect her, but her darkest demons lay in that same place. If she can overcome them, she will be Adarlan’s biggest threat – and his own toughest enemy. While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love?

Okay, so I have read EVERY one of the Throne of Glass books including the novellas. I cannot possibly get across in words just how much I freakin love this series. You are doing yourself a huge dis-service for not reading them if you have not by now.

Mortal Heart (His Fair Assassin #3) by Robin LaFevers

Book Description:

Feeling sorely betrayed, Annith decides to strike out on her own. She has spent her whole life training to be an assassin. Just because the convent has changed its mind doesn't mean she has...

Ugh, so I just realized that this book is being released on one of my ex's birthdays which happened to be a particularly revolting breakup. HOWEVER, I will not let that overshadow this book for November 4th shall hereby be known as AWESOME BOOK RELEASE DAY! I have read the first book in this series, Grave Mercy, which was a brilliant read. Much like the Throne of Glass series, it is basically about a bad ass chick delivering some instant death or pain on peeps. Admittedly, I have not read the second book yet and therefore cannot move on to the third installment that is about to be released but not from lack of interest. I just have a bad habit of book hopping so I will definitely get back to this series ASAP and I hope that you guys do it to!

Gathering Darkness (Falling Kingdoms #3) by Morgan Rhodes, Michelle Rowen
Release Date: December 9th, 2014

Book Description:
In GATHERING DARKNESS, book three of the New York Times bestselling Falling Kingdoms series, the stakes have never been higher as three teams push forward on a race to find the Kindred, the four elemental crystals possessing ancient all-powerful magic, first: TEAM WATCHER relies on King Gaius’s cruelty and Lucia’s powers to unlock the Kindred. TEAM KRAESHIA will stop at nothing—including deceit and betrayal—to seize the Kindred and claim Mytica as their own. Whoever wins will control the fate of Mytica—but fate can be fickle when magic is involved…

So here is another series that I have to shamefully admit I have not read yet. It's surprising, this kind of book is right up my alley of genre interest. I have heard nothing but good things about this series so how about all of us get off our asses and read these books?!

I'm BACK everybody!

Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2) by Sarah J. Maas is COMING!!!

For those of you that live and Mars and have not heard of the Throne of Glass series, well shame on you, ya freakin alien jerk! Sarah J. Maas kicked some serious ass when she came up with this series. I LOVE action, drama, and women that can seriously whoop some ass. So a woman assassin that can do the impossible and basically kill anyone that she comes up against is a seriously fantastic idea that can do no wrong. Even when my parents asked me as a child "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I answered "An assassin!" Ok, so I was too little to know exactly what that profession entailed, but somewhere inside that child mind of mine, I already knew I wanted be a strong woman that kicked ass. So this series puts my mind in a different world where I can live through the main bitch and do things there that would otherwise be frowned upon in our legal system here today.

So the second book in the series is set to be released on August 27th, 2013. I was lucky enough to get a copy early and it was an amazing read!!!! I will post my review up soon for you guys to check out. For those of you that have not read the first book of the series and the novellas, that August release gives you some time to get your shit together and read all the books for this series already. So here are the books out so far for this series:

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1)

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best. Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

Am I excited about the cover? Meh, I dunno. Maybe I was expecting too much. I admit, I think I kind of was. Where's the gold bricks, the fireworks, the answers to the secrets of life embedded into the background pictures? Ok, maybe I'm trippin a bit there, lol. At least it gets us one step closer to the book release. I am actually really excited to read it. I have to admit this series is pretty damn good so far. I am excited they are filming the movies for this series, but as all book fans know the movies will not do the books justice. But I am happy that the "mystery of the all mighty last book cover" has finally been unveiled. How do you feel about it?
